DCVI Website Design

Goal: Design a new website for Dancing Classrooms Virgin Islands, a non-profit organization that offers dance programs to young children
Solution: Full redesign using WordPress

Discovery
The first step was to understand the organization, what they do, who is the audience, and the purpose of the website. This gave me a clear understanding of what the website needs to accomplish to be useful.
1. What’s the primary purpose and what are the secondary purposes?
2. Who would be using the website?
3. What is the most important information someone interested in your organization should see?
I learned that the website needs to show information about DCVI to schools, parents, community supporters, and donors. This led me in the right direction for how the website needs to be structured to make sure the users are satisfied and find what they need easily.
Project Requirements:
– Client needed a simple website to display basic information.
– About, Contact, Donate, Gallery, and Program pages
– Include a donation button
– Follow brand guidelines and style
Wire-framing + Sitemap using Invision for quick sketches.
The home page design includes a statement that clearly answers who organization is and what they do. The main call to action is the button to direct users to learn more about the programs they offer.
Based on the discovery phase, I learned that the primary purpose of the website is to provide information about DCVI to the users.

Visual Design
Using the national organization’s (Dancing Classrooms) brand guidelines, I made sure to follow their color, typography, and imagery. The use of circles was prominent so I created the same graphic using Canva. The circle graphics were used through out the website for consistency.
